The Victor’s Mentality
“24 Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. 25 This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.”
-Deuteronomy 2:24-25
Sometimes I wonder, God says I have given into your hand the enemy. Now begin to engage him in battle. Why do I need to do battle again? But then God’s ways are higher than our ways. Our responsibility is to see our enemies the way God sees them, DEFEATED.
Many scriptures corroborate this, take for instance:
“3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”
-Ephesians 1:3
If you read through this chapter we are told that our inheritance have been concluded before the foundation of the world, it is even guaranteed by the Holy Spirit in Heavenly places.
So when you see yourself in a battle, a challenge over your health, a relationship issue in your family, an uncertain future, a financial challenge- whatever ‘Sihon’ represents, Remember God is saying to you I have given to you Sihon the Amorite. Contend with Him in Battle. Refuse to let the enemy steal your inheritance. His inheritance for us are rooted in His promises. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 2 Peter 1:4.
Our inheritances include but are not limited to :
- Joy
- Peace
- Honour
- Riches
- Long and Prolonged life
- Health and wholeness
- Divine presence
- Divine direction
As we celebrate Christmas, we celebrate our Victory, for we see again one of the many confirmations in the New testament (Covenant) in 1 John 3:8b which says, “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work”. So if you ever had any doubt of the state of the devil, we can see that Our Lord’s main purpose of coming was to defeat the devils’ work. So make no excuse for the habit that is clearly anti-God, do not excuse failure or that sin that so easily besets us ( Heb 12:1), do not accept that negative hereditary trend.
For we are Victorious and Satan is a defeated foe. Let the Redeemed of the Lord say so.
Shout it on the roof top- I AM A VICTORRRRRRRRRRRR.
